Widgets are tools that you can embed on a website to leverage the features offered by our platform.
Smart badges are also a kind of widget, but detailed in another section and managed via each certificate.
Your widgets can each be created, edited, tested and deleted on the 'your widgets' page (currently in beta and user access from the dashboard to follow soon, but if you'd like to try it please get in touch).
The search widget provides a simple web interface within a container (iframe) on your website that enables visitors to search for certificates that you have issued from one or more of your organisation's certification schemes.
The word or phrase entered in the search window is checked against the recipients' names (whether for an individual, organisation or thing) and will return up to ten matching results for each category. The search includes individuals' first names, last names, aliases; organisations' names, trading names; and things names and nicknames. The search does not, however, include the name as written on the certificate (which may have a mismatch).
The results are grouped by name, with a drop down expanding to show one or more certificates issued to that recipient. Each entry shows the certificate scheme from which the certificate was issued, the certificate number, the start date, and the expiry date if applicable (using the scheme's set wording for those dates). The blue arrow opens the full digital certificate page.
Creating the widget:
Ensure the widget is sized appropriately to allow a suitable length of text to be typed in, and for at least one or two search results to be visible below when they are returned.
Remember to click 'Save changes' for your settings to take effect in the preview window.
Deploying the widget to your website:
Copy the short line of html iframe code in the box that is generated after your have finalised and saved your widget settings. This code can then be pasted into the appropriate area of your website.
When you refresh your webpage, the search widget should be displayed and work from within your website.
Managing your widgets
You can 'view' a widget on a separate page within your browser for further testing. This does not preview its dimensions, but lets you test the search functionality and see the results.
You can edit an existing widget from the dashboard either before deployment or once it has been deployed on your website.
Editing the size will not affect widgets already deployed, as the size forms part of the iframe code supplied.
Changing the url(s) and certification scheme(s) associated with a deployed widget will affect their function remotely. This means, for example, you can add or remove associated certification schemes from which the search results derive without having to update the code embedded in your website.
If you delete a widget, it will no longer function on a website irrespective of any legacy iframe code that may be left. A broken link will likely be displayed on the webpage. You will not be able to reinstate a deleted widget and a new one will have a different reference number so any code on your website will need replacing.
